GlucoZen Side Effects: Ingredient Cautions to Know
GlucoZen's possible side effects come from its ingredients, so ask a clinician first if you take any medication.
Watch for lows with insulin or certain diabetes pills, an unlisted amount of caffeine, a licorice compound, green tea extract and L-arginine with nitrates or sildenafil. Xylitol is dangerous to dogs.

The short answer
What are the side effects of GlucoZen?
Nobody has tested GlucoZen itself for side effects, so the honest list comes from what its 23 ingredients are known to do. Most amounts are small, but not zero.
Blend amounts are hidden, so treat every flagged ingredient as present. Four groups of people need the most care: those on diabetes medicines, those sensitive to caffeine, those with heart, kidney or liver problems, and anyone with a dog at home.
Do not exceed 2 mL a day. Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing. Ask a physician first if you take a medication.
Ingredient by ingredient
Which GlucoZen ingredients can cause side effects?
Ten ingredients carry a known caution. The ceilings come from label order, not a lab test.
| Ingredient | Most per serving | Reported effects or cautions | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guarana | About 67 mg of extract | Caffeine; nausea and insomnia; avoid with other stimulants; bleeding risk with warfarin | (MSKCC, Guarana) |
| Eleuthero | 40 mg | Raised digoxin levels in a case report; can skew digoxin tests | (MSKCC, Siberian ginseng) |
| Green tea extract | About 29 mg | Rare liver injury; nausea, belly discomfort, higher blood pressure | (NCCIH, Green tea) (LiverTox, Green tea) |
| Gymnema | 25 mg | A possible rare cause of liver injury | (LiverTox, Gymnema) |
| Bird pepper (capsicum) | 20 mg | Stomach irritation and pain | (MSKCC, Cayenne) |
| Asian ginseng | About 17 mg | Insomnia; may interfere with blood clotting | (NCCIH, Asian ginseng) |
| L-arginine | 12.5 mg | Blood pressure can drop too low with nitrates or sildenafil | (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) |
| Licorice compound | About 11 mg | High blood pressure and heart rhythm problems in sensitive people | (NCCIH, Licorice) |
| Chromium | 0.7 mcg | May add to insulin and other diabetes drugs | (NIH ODS, Chromium) |
| Xylitol | Not published | Dangerous to dogs | (FDA, Xylitol and dogs) |
Blend ingredients are listed heaviest first (FDA, Labeling guide), so the one in place k weighs at most 200 divided by k mg. Real amounts may be far lower.
Diabetes medicines
Can GlucoZen cause low blood sugar?
On its own, a low is unlikely, but the risk rises if you also take insulin, a sulfonylurea or a meglitinide. Those three are the diabetes medicines most tied to lows (NIDDK, Hypoglycemia), and the ADA warns that some supplement ingredients can intensify them (ADA, Vitamins and supplements).
Chromium, gymnema and L-arginine are the label ingredients with that concern (NIH ODS, Chromium) (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). For many people with diabetes, low means a reading below 70 mg/dL.
Shakiness, hunger, dizziness, confusion, irritability, a fast heartbeat or a headache with a reading under 70 mg/dL needs treatment now, the way your care team taught you. Severe lows can cause fainting or seizures (NIDDK, Hypoglycemia).
Keep taking your medicines exactly as prescribed, and tell the clinician who manages your diabetes. More in the article on supplements, diabetes medicines and lows.
Stimulants
Does GlucoZen have enough caffeine to cause jitters?
It might for sensitive people, but nobody outside the maker knows the amount. Guarana sits third in the blend and green tea seventh, and both contain caffeine; the label prints no caffeine figure.
Too much caffeine can bring a fast heart rate, palpitations, poor sleep, jitters and headache. FDA cites 400 mg a day as fine for most adults, but sensitivity varies (FDA, Caffeine).
- Take the evening serving earlier if sleep suffers.
- Count coffee, tea, energy drinks and pre-workout powders on the same day.
The guarana and caffeine page works through the numbers.
Heart and blood pressure
Which heart and blood pressure medicines need a check first?
Three small ingredients with outsized cautions.
Blood pressure and rhythm
Monoammonium glycyrrhizinate comes from licorice. Glycyrrhizin can cause high blood pressure and heart rhythm problems, and even small amounts have caused trouble in people with high blood pressure, heart or kidney disease, or a salty diet (NCCIH, Licorice).
Nitrates or sildenafil
With nitrates for chest pain or with sildenafil, L-arginine may drop blood pressure too low. Mayo Clinic also advises against it after a recent heart attack (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).
Digoxin
Eleuthero, also called Siberian ginseng, raised digoxin blood levels in a case report and can make digoxin tests read falsely high (MSKCC, Siberian ginseng). Tell whoever orders your levels.
If you take a blood thinner, ask first too: guarana may raise bleeding risk with warfarin (MSKCC, Guarana). See the licorice compound page.

Can GlucoZen affect your liver?
It is unlikely but possible, mainly because of green tea extract. LiverTox rates green tea extract a well-established cause of liver injury, with more than 100 published cases, usually starting 1 to 6 months after a person begins the product (LiverTox, Green tea).
Gymnema is a possible rare cause too (LiverTox, Gymnema). The amounts here are small but unmeasured.
Stop and call a clinician if you notice
- Dark urine
- Yellow skin or yellow eyes
- Pain in the upper belly
Pets
Why is GlucoZen dangerous for dogs?
The drops are sweetened with xylitol, which is harmless for insulin in people but triggers a strong insulin surge in dogs. A dog's blood sugar can crash within 10 to 60 minutes, with vomiting, weakness, staggering, collapse or seizures (FDA, Xylitol and dogs).
Close the dropper tightly and store the bottle up high. If a dog gets into it, call a veterinarian at once.

Quick check
Should you ask a clinician before trying GlucoZen?
Five yes-or-no questions. Your answers stay on your device.
Bring the bottle or a photo of the label to the visit. Very high readings with extreme thirst or confusion need prompt medical care, whatever you are taking.
When to stop
When should you stop taking GlucoZen and get help?
Stop the drops
Stop if you see liver warning signs, a racing or uneven heartbeat, fainting, or repeated lows.
Get care
Treat a reading under 70 mg/dL right away. Call your clinician, or emergency services if symptoms are severe.
Report it
Show your clinician the label and write down when the problem started and how much you took.
FAQ
GlucoZen side effects FAQ
What are the side effects of GlucoZen?
No study has measured GlucoZen's side effects, so they come from its ingredients. Possible ones include jitters or poor sleep from caffeine, stomach upset from capsicum or green tea, and, rarely, liver injury from green tea extract. Lows are a risk if you also take insulin or sulfonylureas.
Can GlucoZen cause low blood sugar?
It could add to the effect of insulin, sulfonylureas or meglitinides, which can cause lows. Chromium, gymnema and L-arginine are the ingredients of concern. A reading below 70 mg/dL with shakiness, hunger or confusion needs treatment right away. Keep your prescribed medicines as they are and tell your clinician.
Can GlucoZen cause a headache or a racing heart?
Yes, it can for some people. Guarana and green tea add caffeine, which can cause headache, palpitations and a fast heart rate, and the amount is not printed. The licorice compound can also affect heart rhythm in sensitive people. Stop and call a clinician if your heartbeat feels uneven.
Can GlucoZen damage your liver?
Liver injury is rare but possible. Green tea extract is a well-established cause of liver injury in case reports, and gymnema is a possible rare cause. Stop the drops and call a clinician if you get dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or upper belly pain.
Is GlucoZen safe to take with digoxin?
Ask your cardiologist first. GlucoZen contains eleuthero, also called Siberian ginseng, which raised digoxin levels in a case report and can make digoxin blood tests read falsely high. Eleuthero is fifth in the blend.
Can GlucoZen upset your stomach?
It can. Bird pepper extract is a capsicum, and capsaicin can irritate the stomach. Guarana is linked to nausea, and green tea extracts to belly discomfort. If your stomach complains, stop and tell your clinician.
When should I stop taking GlucoZen?
Stop and contact a clinician if you notice dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, belly pain, a racing or uneven heartbeat, fainting, or repeated readings below 70 mg/dL. Stopping a supplement is fine; never stop or adjust a prescribed diabetes medicine on your own.
