Xylitol, Stevia and the Other Ingredients in GlucoZen Drops
Outside the blend, GlucoZen lists five other ingredients: deionized water, organic citrus extract, natural flavors, stevia (steviol glycosides) and xylitol. Stevia and xylitol sweeten the drops without sugar. No amounts are printed. The key safety point is for pets: xylitol can drop a dog's blood sugar within an hour, so keep the bottle out of reach.

On the label
What are the other ingredients in GlucoZen?
After the chromium and the 200 mg blend, the label lists "Other Ingredients: Deionized Water, Organic Citrus Extract, Natural Flavors, Stevia (Steviol Glycosides), Xylitol."
These make up the liquid itself and its taste. They are not part of the blend's 200 mg, and the label gives no amount for any of them. Every line of the panel is on the Supplement Facts page.

Pet safety
Is GlucoZen dangerous for dogs?
Yes. In dogs, xylitol causes a strong insulin release and a rapid, deep drop in blood sugar. Signs can start within 10 to 60 minutes and can be life-threatening (FDA, Xylitol and dogs). FDA lists dietary supplements among the products that may contain xylitol (FDA, Xylitol and dogs). A dropper bottle on a nightstand or in a handbag is easy for a curious dog to chew.
Call a veterinarian right away, even if your dog seems fine. Watch for vomiting, weakness, staggering, collapse or seizures (FDA, Xylitol and dogs).
Store it high
Keep the bottle in a closed cabinet, not on a low table or in a bag on the floor.
Close the dropper
Screw the cap tight after each dose. Wipe up any spilled drops.
Tell the household
Make sure everyone, and any pet sitter, knows the drops contain xylitol.

For people
Does xylitol raise insulin or blood sugar in people?
FDA says that in people, xylitol does not trigger insulin release (FDA, Xylitol and dogs). That is a key reason it is used in sugar-free products. It does not mean GlucoZen changes your blood sugar either way. Keep checking your numbers as usual.
One study has raised questions. In 2,149 people, those with the highest blood xylitol levels had a higher 3-year risk of major heart and blood vessel events, such as heart attack and stroke. In 10 healthy volunteers, a xylitol drink raised blood xylitol and made platelets more reactive (Witkowski, Eur Heart J 2024).
The authors say the study shows a link, not cause and effect, and call for more safety research (Witkowski, Eur Heart J 2024). It also tested a drink, not drops. GlucoZen does not print its xylitol amount, so there is no way to compare.

Who should think twice about GlucoZen's ingredients?
Question five is the xylitol question. The rest cover the whole formula.
A yes on question five does not rule out the drops. It means storing them like a medicine. People with heart disease who want to limit xylitol can raise the study above with their clinician.
Stevia
Is the stevia in GlucoZen safe?
High-purity stevia has a clean regulatory record. The label just does not say which kind it is.
Accepted by FDA
FDA has not questioned GRAS notices for steviol glycosides of at least 95% purity, such as Reb A and Reb D (FDA, Sweeteners).
Not GRAS
Stevia leaf and crude stevia extracts are not considered generally recognized as safe (FDA, Sweeteners).
4 mg per kg
FDA cites an acceptable daily intake of 4 mg per kg of body weight, as steviol equivalents (FDA, Sweeteners). For a 154 lb adult, that is about 280 mg.
GlucoZen's label says "Stevia (Steviol Glycosides)," which points to purified compounds, but it gives no purity or amount. Because steviol glycosides are so sweet, products usually need very little.
Sugar
Does GlucoZen contain sugar?
No sugar appears on the label. The sweet taste comes from stevia, xylitol and the licorice compound. A 1 mL serving is also a very small volume to begin with.
Points in its favor
- No added sugar listed.
- Xylitol does not trigger insulin release in people.
- Stevia is named as steviol glycosides, the purified form.
Open questions
- No amounts for any sweetener.
- Natural flavors and citrus extract not specified.
- Xylitol is a real hazard in homes with dogs.
Storage and dosing tips are on the how to use page.
FAQ
Xylitol, stevia and other ingredients: questions
Does GlucoZen have xylitol in it?
Yes. Xylitol is the last of five other ingredients on the label, after deionized water, organic citrus extract, natural flavors and stevia. The amount is not printed. It sweetens the drops without sugar, and it is dangerous to dogs, so store the bottle out of their reach.
What happens if my dog licks GlucoZen drops?
Call a veterinarian right away. Xylitol can cause a rapid, deep drop in a dog's blood sugar within 10 to 60 minutes. Watch for vomiting, weakness, staggering, collapse or seizures, but do not wait for signs before you call.
Is the stevia in GlucoZen natural?
It comes from the stevia plant. The label lists Stevia (Steviol Glycosides), the purified sweet compounds. FDA has not questioned high-purity steviol glycosides as safe, while leaf and crude extracts are not considered GRAS. GlucoZen does not print the purity or amount.
Is xylitol bad for your heart?
One 2024 study linked high blood xylitol levels to more major heart events, such as heart attack and stroke, over 3 years, but it showed an association, not proof of harm. It tested a drink, not drops. If you have heart disease, mention the xylitol in GlucoZen to your clinician.
What natural flavors are in GlucoZen?
The label does not say. It lists only Natural Flavors, with no named fruits, herbs or sources. The same is true of the organic citrus extract. If you have a food allergy, ask [email protected] which flavors are used before you order, and get the answer in writing.
Is GlucoZen sugar-free?
No sugar is listed on the label. The drops are sweetened with stevia and xylitol, plus a licorice compound in the blend. That does not make it a blood sugar treatment. Keep your usual glucose checks and diabetes care in place while using any supplement.
What is deionized water in a supplement?
It is water with its dissolved minerals removed. In GlucoZen it is the first other ingredient, the liquid base that carries the extracts. It adds no nutrients. Its place first among the other ingredients fits a liquid product made mostly of water.
