The 8 Amino Acids in GlucoZen: How Much, What They Do and One Real Caution
GlucoZen's 200 mg blend ends with eight amino acids: L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine, beta-alanine, GABA, L-ornithine HCl, L-tryptophan and L-carnitine. They sit in places 14 to 22, so each can weigh at most about 14 mg down to 9 mg per serving. Those are tiny amounts next to food or study doses. The one real caution is L-arginine with nitrates or sildenafil.

On the label
Which amino acids are in GlucoZen?
Eight amino acids and related nutrients fill the bottom of GlucoZen's Proprietary Herbal Blend. In label order they are L-Glutamine, L-Tyrosine, L-Arginine, Beta-Alanine, GABA, L-Ornithine HCl, L-Tryptophan and L-Carnitine.
One non-amino ingredient sits among them: the licorice compound in 18th place, covered on the licorice page. No amounts are printed for any of them.

Blend ingredients are listed from heaviest to lightest (FDA, Labeling guide), so the ingredient in place k can weigh at most 200 ÷ k mg per serving. That is our math from the label, not a lab test. Chromium sits outside the blend with its own amount: 0.7 mcg.
Each amino acid sits in the lightest third of the list. The first of them, L-glutamine, can weigh at most about 14 mg per serving, and the last, L-carnitine, about 9 mg. The order rule behind this math is explained in how to read a proprietary blend.

What does each amino acid in GlucoZen do?
Ceilings come from label order. Research notes come only from the linked sources.
| Ingredient | Place | Most per serving | Most per day | What sources say |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| L-Glutamine | 14 | About 14 mg | About 29 mg | Not covered by our sources |
| L-Tyrosine | 15 | About 13 mg | About 27 mg | Not covered by our sources |
| L-Arginine | 16 | 12.5 mg | 25 mg | May lower blood sugar; risky with nitrates or sildenafil (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) |
| Beta-Alanine | 17 | About 12 mg | About 24 mg | Not covered by our sources |
| GABA | 19 | About 10.5 mg | About 21 mg | Unclear if oral GABA reaches the brain (Boonstra, Front Psychol 2015) |
| L-Ornithine HCl | 20 | 10 mg | 20 mg | Not covered by our sources |
| L-Tryptophan | 21 | About 9.5 mg | About 19 mg | Subject of a 1989 recall (CDC MMWR, L-tryptophan EMS 1990) |
| L-Carnitine | 22 | About 9 mg | About 18 mg | Trials used 250 to 4,000 mg a day (NIH ODS, Carnitine) |
"Most per day" assumes the label's 1 mL twice daily. Real amounts may be lower.
The caution
Can the L-arginine in GlucoZen interact with medicines?
It can, which makes it the one amino acid here worth a real conversation. Mayo Clinic says L-arginine with nitrates for chest pain, or with sildenafil, may drop blood pressure too low. It may also add to blood pressure drugs (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).
Mayo Clinic also notes that L-arginine may lower blood sugar, and it does not recommend L-arginine after a recent heart attack (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). The amount in GlucoZen is small, but those warnings come with no safe floor. If you take insulin or diabetes pills, keep your usual checks and tell your clinician about the drops.
Talk to your prescriber before starting GlucoZen. Dizziness or fainting after a dose needs prompt attention.

Order nowA bit of history
Why does L-tryptophan in a supplement raise questions?
Because of what happened in 1989. L-tryptophan products were tied to an illness called eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome, and FDA pulled them from the market (CDC MMWR, L-tryptophan EMS 1990).
- November 17, 1989
FDA recalled supplements giving 100 mg or more of L-tryptophan a day (CDC MMWR, L-tryptophan EMS 1990).
- March 1990
The recall was extended to products at any dosage (CDC MMWR, L-tryptophan EMS 1990).
- August 24, 1990
CDC had received 1,536 reports of the syndrome and 27 deaths (CDC MMWR, L-tryptophan EMS 1990).
That history does not describe GlucoZen or today's products. It is a reason to know what is in your bottle. Here, L-tryptophan is 21st of 22, at most about 19 mg a day.
Blood sugar angle
Do L-carnitine and GABA help with blood sugar?
Studied at far higher doses
A 2023 analysis of 41 trials using 250 to 4,000 mg a day found lower fasting glucose and A1C, but larger trials are needed. Healthy people make enough carnitine, and red meat is the main food source (NIH ODS, Carnitine). GlucoZen's ceiling of about 18 mg a day is about 7% of the lowest dose tested.
Calming claims, thin evidence
Researchers cannot yet say whether GABA taken by mouth crosses into the brain. Evidence for a calming effect is small and needs independent repeats (Boonstra, Front Psychol 2015). No source we use links it to blood sugar.
Our view
Why are amino acids in a blood sugar blend?
The brand does not say. At 9 to 14 mg each, they add length to the ingredient list more than a meaningful dose. A serving of protein food supplies amino acids in far larger amounts. The ADA does not recommend supplements for blood sugar benefit in any case (ADA, Standards of Care 2026).
The amino acids are unlikely to do much, good or bad, with one exception: L-arginine for people on nitrates or sildenafil. Mention it at your next visit. All cautions for the formula are on the side effects page, and the full label is on the Supplement Facts page.
FAQ
Amino acids in GlucoZen: questions
What amino acids are in GlucoZen?
Eight: L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine, beta-alanine, GABA, L-ornithine HCl, L-tryptophan and L-carnitine. They fill places 14 to 22 of the 200 mg blend, with the licorice compound in 18th place among them. The label prints no amount for any of them.
How much L-arginine is in GlucoZen?
The label does not say. L-arginine is 16th of 22 in a blend listed heaviest first, so it can be at most 12.5 mg per 1 mL serving, or 25 mg a day. That is a ceiling worked out from label order, not a measured amount.
Is it safe to take GlucoZen with sildenafil?
Ask your prescriber first. Mayo Clinic warns that L-arginine with sildenafil, or with nitrates for chest pain, may drop blood pressure too low. GlucoZen's L-arginine is small by position, but no source sets a safe floor, so the question deserves a real answer.
Is the L-tryptophan in GlucoZen dangerous?
No source links today's small amounts to harm, but the ingredient has a history. In 1989 FDA recalled L-tryptophan supplements after an outbreak of eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome. In GlucoZen it is 21st of 22, at most about 9.5 mg per serving.
Does the L-carnitine in GlucoZen lower blood sugar?
There is no evidence for that at this amount. Trials that found lower fasting glucose and A1C used 250 to 4,000 mg a day. GlucoZen's L-carnitine is last in the blend, at most about 18 mg a day, and no study of GlucoZen exists.
Will the GABA in GlucoZen help me relax?
Probably not in any way you would notice. Researchers cannot yet say whether GABA taken by mouth reaches the brain, and the calming studies are small. GlucoZen's GABA is 19th of 22, at most about 10.5 mg per serving.
Are the amino acids in GlucoZen vegan?
The label does not say. It names each amino acid but prints no source, no vegan claim and no allergen statement for them. If it matters to you, ask [email protected] and keep the reply in writing before you order.
